Speaking of West Australian icons…
Dome cafes feature in the minds and memories of nearly all west Australians at some point in their lives.
Located in Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Tasmania – did you know they also have cafes in the Maldives, Bahrain and (formerly in) Singapore?!
You can imagine how proud the Perth International Burlesque Festival team are to not just have the support of this amazing global business, but to have them host TWO of our regional roadshow events!
We spoke to the awesome Abby Rohde from Dome on west Australian hospitality, playing host and some of their beautiful restored buildings:
Q: Dome are iconic in Western Australia, tell me a little about their history…
Abby: Dome Cafes have been a staple part of the WA hospitality landscape for over 30 years. More recently, and more specifically to PIBF, the group has ventured into hotels – opening two locations in beautifully restored heritage-listed buildings, with more in the pipeline.
The Premier Mill Hotel in Katanning for example, once being home to the ‘Premier Roller Flour Mill’ has had the luxury hotel rooms built around all of the existing machinery. So you can wake up with the view of the old steam boiler or shower in the old grain silo – no two rooms are the same and it’s a magical experience.
Q: How are Dome involved with PIBF 2020?
Abby: We are so pleased to be able to host two events this year, one in each of the hotels. Our Katanning dinner will be a really special night, being held in the Old Power Station, and then we are holding two shows in Northam, an early and a late show!
Q: Dome owns some spectacular (restored) vintage buildings in Katanning and Northam, is this the first time they’ve hosted burlesque?
Abby: This IS the first time burlesque has come to town in both Katanning and Northam. We’ve held some Fringe events over the past few years as a part of ‘Outer Fringe’ but this is the first time being a part of the PIBF Regional Roadshow.
Q: What can our attendees at our *SOLD OUT* Katanning show expect on the menu for the evening?
Abby: We are excited to showcase the produce of the Great Southern region at our Katanning Dinner, so our guests can expect locally grown ingredients prepared by Executive Chef Will Reidy.
Q: If PIBF was a beverage on the Dome menu, what do you think we’d be?
Abby: We have actually designed a special cocktail specifically in honour of the PIBF Regional Roadshow! And it’s a bit pink, a bit flowery and very very yummy! These will be available in both bars on the nights of the scheduled shows.
Want to join in the fun? We’ve officially sold out both shows in Northam and Katanning, kitties!
