Here she is, Perth – she’s DiRtY, sExY and FuNNy – it’s our 2021 Headiner Lucy Lovegun!
Lucy is also the current reigning Miss Burlesque Western Australia, she’s headlinesd the Australian Burlesque Festival, she’s a teacher and performer with Sugar Blue Burlesque a mentor to many – and just an all-round “good egg!”
We love our Lucy – and she loves Perth!
We caught up with the Lovegun herself for a few quick questions as she warms up for PIBF 2021:
What does this mean to you to be PIBF’s 2021 headliner?
Wow, it’s such an honour, I was pretty taken aback when I got the call. Burlesque is a huge part of my life; it means a lot to me personally for what it has given me and being able to share it with people is so important, and PIBF is an amazing platform to do so.
To be recognised in this way is immense, I’m still flabbergasted. Being a PIBF Headliner is such a great opportunity to share the joy of Burlesque with WA and lift people up after a tough year, to pay it forward.
It means the world to me to be able to spread the good word of Burlesque in this capacity, I’m really looking forward to sharing what I’ve learnt over the years in the headliner workshops that PIBF facilitates to help grow our community, and to gosh darn it entertain the people!
What can we expect to see from you this year from Lucy Lovegun?
Big energy, big hair and big ol’ Lovegun shenanigans; I’m so excited! I’ve got new acts, new costumes and I have been working my butt off to bring some fun to the stage and smiles to audience faces.
BIGGER, MORE, maximum glamour spud vibes. She’s dirty, sexy, funny after all and I plan on schmearing my brand of special sauce all over WA!
It’s a state-only festival this year, what are you looking forward to about this year’s PIBF?
Bringing together the Perth/WA various arts scenes into one big mixing pot of fabulous we get to marinate in for a whole month! It’s community spirit y’all!
The WA Burlesque and Cabaret scene is just magnificent; we have a plethora of phenomenal, talented performers across a wide range of styles and have the opportunity to showcase more of it is most excellent.
I can’t wait to be immersed in what WA has to offer.
What do you love about being part of the Perth arts community?
Gosh what don’t I love, it’s my chosen family. You will never find a better bunch of good eggs. The community is caring and supportive, fiercely passionate about their craft, creative, talented, and accepting.
We’re a community that strives forward for a better tomorrow, as naff as that sounds, we are socially conscious working to make better art in a safe and inclusive space; it warms my heart.
It is such an accepting community, with a diverse range of styles and people involved, there is a great crossover with different art forms and it all comes together to a common goal, lifting each other up along the way. Y’all I could ramble all day about why I love our community but being a part of it is pretty darn great.
What tunes will be on your PIBF road trip playlist?
I’ll be kicking it back old school. I’m here for tunes from the 40s to 80s mostly, and maybe some nostalgic bops from the 90s.
Gimme rock n roll, jazz, throw in some hair metal and bring along Janis and Joan for the ride and I’ll be set. Variety is the spice of life you know, and I have some eclectic tastes.
