The Perth arts community is world class – Perth’s Drag Queens, Drag Kings and Non-binary performers are no exception.
Cheer if you’re queer! (and even if you’re not!) We have the magnificent Serenity Von Varda on board for 2021!
You’re either going to be laughing and cheering uncontrollably when they’re behind the microphone, or utterly awed by their ethereal yet fierce high fashion looks.
At this year’s Tease Factory, you can do BOTH. #blessed
We caught up with Serenity for some very serious fashion tips for this year’s festival:
You’re our Opening night MC for the Tease Factory – what are you looking forward to this year?
I’m definitely excited to see the broad range of talent this year! I have such a love for each class of burlesque, from the kooky & spooky, to the classic, but more so I love how loving and accepting the burlesque community is, so the backstage banter will be incredible.
You are stunningly fashionable, and opening night’s dress code is Avant Gard – any hot tips for dressing to this theme? Are you excited to see people’s outfits?
Avant Garde can be interpreted so vastly, but being yourself and being true to you is the best outfit I think. Bright colours, big wild hair and makeup outside the norm is always the best go-to for myself personally, and I’m expecting to see a lot of people trawl through their closets and go all out.
What do you love about being part of the Perth arts community?
What I love most about the Perth arts scene is the inclusion. I’ve worked in grunge dive bars, to drag brunches to weddings, and in every space I find I can be my most authentic queer, brown self alongside my arts family, with no judgement.
What tune would you add to a PIBF road trip playlist?
Definitely anything by Donna Summer, especially this Bad Girls Gigamesh remix that was featured in the new Charlie’s Angels movie; Donna Summer & Kristen Stewart, queer icons!
Tickets are available now for the Tease Factory, Gala and the Glitter Crash after party – don’t miss out on a fabulous time, grab your tickets!
