We’ve got the best and the ‘breast’ of the west at PIBF 2021

Unlock your closets and put on your glad rags, Western Australia – Sugar Du Joure is hitting the road!

One of the most recognisable faces of the Perth performance community is getting behind the mic for our regional road trip to Geraldton and Kalgoorlie.

And the forecast is for high levels of tease, with gale forces of laughter and a deluge of sparkles!

We caught up with “Mama Shoog” to see how her festival prep is going:

1. You’re hosting PIBF’s Regional shows this year, on top of performing and we’re thrilled to have you – are you excited to tread the boards this year?

I am absolutely ELATED! Kalgoorlie especially was such an amazing crowd to perform to last year. I am really looking forward to making the country crowds have a bit of a giggle!! I’m not holding back on the jokes this year! WET SEATS ALL AROUND.

2. What are you looking forward to at PIBF 2021?

I’m really excited to be MC-ing in Kalgoorlie and Geraldton! I absolutely love touring regionally, because some of the most booked and blessed burlesque acts in Perth are all new to them.

The delight of the audience is absolutely PALPABLE and Ol Shoogie loves to milk an eager crowd. I can’t wait to show you all some new outfits too!

3. Perth has some hot and fantastic talent. Who, in your opinion, should audience members keep an eye out for at this year’s festival?

Oh this one is a tough one. I feel a lot of pride when I see the new names popping up, a few gals I have taught in my classes!

Everyone needs to keep their eye on Flynn V. Perth’s Party Prince. He is new to the burlesque scene but his acts translate SO WELL onstage.

My heart always stops slightly when I see Essie Foxglove on a line up too. The performances Essie gives are quite exceptional. No one is performing burlesque like she does in Perth. I encourage everyone to go see these two kids if you haven’t seen them live before. I always leave inspired!!

4. What do you love about being part of the Perth arts community?

The Perth Arts community is really evolving to be a more inclusive space. Previously it was just the ‘Burlesque’ community, and now it’s really come together to support Drag Artists, Cabaret singers, Circus performers, and more. We are an incredibly supportive bunch and I love being a role model and a Burlesque Mama to upcoming performers of all styles.

5. What tunes will be on your PIBF road trip playlist?

I’m an old-school disco Diva at heart. Give me Donna Summer and Diana Ross. Also the entire Chromatica album from our queen Lady Gaga. I’m not over it yet, and NEVER WILL BE.

Don’t miss your tickets to see the best and the ‘breast’ in the west this year – all Perth and Regional shows are selling fast – don’t miss out on the fun!
